The Sonic Groom – Review in 2022

What you need to know before buying the Sonic Groom

So you are looking for and electric trimmer and you’re considering the Sonic Groom trimmer by MicroTouch. You saw some ads on TV and you think this one might be the one. Here are a few things to consider before buying the Sonic Groom Shaver.

How often do you shave?

At less than 20 bucks, you really can’t beat the price of this thing. With all of its cool attachments, you can chop down your stubble, hack through chest hair, get a clean shave and even trip your hair in between haircuts.

Who wouldn’t want one of these babies in their bathroom?

Here’s the issue and it’s the most important aspect of our Sonic Groom reviews: how thick is your hair and how often do you shave? If you only need to touch up your lumberjack look every few days or you have a sparse to normally thick beard, then the Sonic Groom is exactly what you are looking for. If, however, you plan to use this baby every day or you have a Sasquatch beard, you will definitely want to spend a few more bucks and get something like the Philips Norelco QG3360/42 Multigroom Plus.

I don’t know about you, but if I don’t shave every day, I look like a wookie in no time. Although the Sonic Groom had everything I was looking for, it really doesn’t have a motor big enough and powerful enough to weed whack through my stubble. There’s just something about that Multigroom and the solid, permanent weight it has in your hand that just makes you feel like a badass.

What’s your budget?

This is an important question as you go wandering through the internet looking for Sonic Groom by Micro Touch reviews. How much do you really want to spend on one of these all-in-one manscaping machines?

Since this website is CIVILIZED Skincare, it only goes to reason that we are going to love the electric razors that are built to last, are of impeccable quality, and look really cool when you’re using it. Think of it this way: at some point, your lover is going to sit in the bathroom and watch you shave. Would you rather it just be one of those daily moments of you just getting ready for another boring day or would you want him or her to get aroused at the way an engineered marvel glides across your handsome face?

Unfortunately, the Sonic Groom just isn’t powerful enough to impress a significant other with your shaving rituals. Many Sonic Groom reviews repeat the same sentiment: it’s not a very powerful device and it’s mostly plastic so it wails with a sharp buzz when you turn it on.

I know I already mentioned the QG3360/42, and it really is my daily shaver, but I had a chance to use my dad’s Norelco Multigroom 7100 QG3384/42. It feels like you have a Ferrari in your hand! Solid and heavy with a deep, warm hum coming from its professionally engineered motor. You shave with this machine in front of your lover and they will see you as James Bond. Keep in mind there is a newer version of this Multigroom shaver (the Multigroom 7100 QG3390) that’s in the $50 range. I’ve held one in the store and it didn’t feel as good as the older model. Either one will work great for you though. They both have excellent reviews.

Are you looking for the best travel electric razor?

Let’s say you actually are an international man of mystery and you spend a good percentage of your month away from home. You need an awesome all-in-one electric razor that’s lightweight and powerful enough to handle not only shaving your face, but also keeping the hair all over your body in check. This is actually where the Sonic Groom Shaver shines!

That Multigroom with all the attachments weighs almost a pound and a half. Whereas, the Sonic Groom ships to you in a tidy 7.4 ounces (and that includes the packaging so it’s probably closer to 6.8 ounces with all the attachments).

That’s exactly why I bought the Sonic Groom for this review. It’s small. It’s compact and it weighs almost nothing. I’ve actually traveled with my Norelco before and the TSA will ALWAYS check your bag if you have that heavy monster inside it. These days, I chuck the Sonic Groom in my carry-on bag and I haven’t been strip-searched since.

And let’s be honest, it might not be my go-to-every-day shaver, but The Sonic Groom is perfect for grooming when you’re travelling. I can keep my beard tidy and sexy and keep the hair off my neck and other parts simply and easily with this little guy and I’m totally happy with the results.

How will you keep your shaving kit together?

One often overlooked aspect of the Sonic Groom reviews is that no one will tell you that this electric shaver doesn’t come with a carrying case or display holder so you have to come up with something on your own to prevent you from losing all the attachments.

Consider how this razor will look in your house. If you typically just chuck everything in a drawer and call it a day then it really doesn’t matter. But let’s say you’re much more civilized than that and keep an impeccably well-appointed bathroom and you really want your all-in-one electric shaver to not only work well but also make a statement as to your amazing tastes.

If this matters to you (and why shouldn’t it), I think you should look for a trimmer with a charging stand also. My favorite Trimmer that does the best display job is the JTrim Ultimate ProGroomer JPT-PG600. It’s really nice to shave your body and then slip this shaver into its cradle and walk away. The cradle charges the razor and keeps all the attachments in a tidy little place that doesn’t take up too much room on your counter.

The JTrim is an excellent shaver also! It doesn’t necessarily get you as close a shave as my Norelco, but the charging stand makes up for it in sheer convenience.

Do you need your electric body groomer to be waterproof?

Think about the end use here, people! How do you keep these things clean? I know how I do my shaving routine and I don’t think I’d use anything that can’t at least be run under a faucet after every use. That being said, I don’t think I’ll ever feel comfortable getting the Sonic Groom shaver wet. I always just tap it a bunch and most of the stubble falls right out. You can always wash the attachment heads, but I’d also make sure they are allowed to dry off completely before putting them back away.

As far as I know, pretty much all the Norelcos can be rinsed although I’ve never done the full immersion with the body of the trimmer.

If you are the shave in the shower kind of guy and you have no plans on changing, then I highly recommend the Remington PG 6170 Crafter Beard Boss. This thing is sealed up top to bottom so you shave in the bathtub if you really want to. And really, you can just turn this around in your hand to see that no water is going to get inside so if waterproof is on your wish list, then this is the electric grooming kit for you.

Final thoughts on Sonic Groom Reviews

That’s just it. Whenever you buy one of those “as seen on TV” things, you usually get a lot less than what you paid for (which, thankfully, is never a ton of money). And beyond that, there is typically nowhere for consumers to leave Sonic Groom shaver reviews or reviews for anything for that matter. So you plunk down your fifteen bucks or so and you roll the dice as to what you receive in the mail.

I can’t say I’m disappointed at the Sonic Groom because it really is an awesome little travel shaver. But if you plan on using this thing every day, it will definitely be worth it for you to plunk down the extra $20 to get something solid and professionally manufactured that will last several years instead of several months.

Either way, the Sonic Groom by Micro Touch is pretty good for the price so it shouldn’t sting so bad when this thing bites it after a few months.
